Synopsis:
As was custom of the time in early 20th century Andalusia, Bernarda locks away her entire household in a period of mourning after the death of her tyrannical, rakish second husband. Faced with few ways to escape the household apart from marriage, Bernarda’s five adult daughters struggle against her iron rule. When a suitor courts one daughter and attempts to seduce another, Bernarda’s walled fortress comes crashing down.
